While sitting in a cafe over the weekend, many topics of conversation were thrown in to the mix for discussion. The Rio Olympics, work life imbalance, social calendars were all on topic. During these conversations, I chose to listen to all that was being discussed and it became immediately apparent that we were maintaining an “above the line” attitude … and it showed.

This past weekend has been dominated by sport… Rugby finals, the Rio Olympics and the regular Saturday sport for those with children. Throughout all of this, a common theme was present relating to more than the sporting arena. All these events were a culmination of effort over time. The competitors didn’t just turn up one day……

This week I want you to pick an area of your life where you may be either experiencing challenges or wanting to step up a gear. When you choose to make changes in this area, and I’m sure you will, what is that first step and how do you go about being courageous enough to take it? One way I find making these decisions is to find someone who has made similar decisions before and model how they chose to act.

Some were of the style where they were at the front controlling where to go and what to to. “Follow me and we will get things done”. While this was effective to a point, there were some challenges as the group started to grow in size. Then there were others who were more willing to delegate tasks to a team that they had chosen to have around them. “I am in control, however I give you the responsibility and will back your judgement”.
